Are you ready for move-in day?
Keep reading, or watch our What to Expect on Move-in Day video, to help the Hokies in your life prepare for their first day living at Virginia Tech!
What do Hokies need to bring?
Hokie Passport
If a student does not have their Hokie Passport (student ID) yet, they will pick it up on arrival before continuing with the move-in process. Students will need a valid, original US-issued driver’s license, international passport, or US military ID for this process.
If a student's Hokie Passport was mailed to them, they must validate their ID within three days after moving in.
- To validate your ID card, you must visit the Information Station outside of the Student Services Building to validate (or pick up and validate) your ID within three days after moving in.
- If you do not validate your ID within three days of moving in, your card will be deactivated. Students moving in on Thursday will have until Monday, August 25, to validate without losing access.
- Follow Hokie Passport on Facebook for more info and updates.
PIN Code
Students also need the 4-digit PIN emailed to their vt.edu email to access their room.
- For returning students, as long as they haven't changed it, the PIN will be the same as it was during the previous semester.
- If it is a student’s first time on campus, they will use the code emailed to them.
- Students cannot change/reset their PIN until they arrive on campus and connect to Eduroam WiFi.
Parking Pass
Make sure the Hokies in your life have their parking pass printed and placed on their dashboard before they get to campus! This pass will be sent to their vt.edu email for them to print.
The pass must be fully visible on the dashboard. Folding it so that parts of the pass aren't visible (like the date or the parking lot) may result in enforcement actions from Parking Services.
Early Arrival Parking Pass
If a student has an approved early arrival move-in, they will have access to a parking pass that is valid for their day of arrival only.
- To receive this pass, students must book their early arrival at least two days in advance.
- The pass will be emailed to the student if time allows. If they book an early arrival close to the arrival date, they may have to download their pass from the StarRez Portal.
- If a student books less than two days in advance, Housing Services cannot guarantee they will receive a valid parking pass. They will likely need to find parking on their own, and this parking may require payment.
Where should students park on move-in day?
Short-term Parking Lot
Students will have a designated parking lot for their 1-hour move-in appointment. Where they park depends on which residence hall they are moving into! Check the move-in map to find each assigned lot and instructions for moving into each residence hall!
Long-term Parking Lot
Students must move their vehicle to one of the Long-term Parking locations shown on the move-in map when their time slot ends. If non-student guests want to stay on campus, they must move their car to one of our long-term parking lots to allow space for other students to move in.
Parking in service or handicapped parking spaces, on grassy areas, or sidewalks is prohibited.
Campus Shuttle
Don’t want to walk from long-term parking? The Blacksburg Transit Campus Shuttle has 4 routes that cover the entire campus! Find more information and a bus schedule online.
