Who’s who when it comes to helping students living on campus thrive and focus on their well-being? From Student Leaders to embedded counselors, your students living on campus will have many people, and resources, to help them prioritize their personal wellness.

Student Leaders

Keep reading or watch a video to learn how Student Leaders support Hokies living on campus!

Student Leaders, also commonly referred to as an SLs, are innovative and adaptable student leaders assigned to residential halls to promote the well-being and safety of the students. They are here to help make VT home!

    SLs can:

    • Mediate a situation and find a solution before making a room change
    • Answer questions about social and educational events on campus
    • Help you with problems you have in your residence hall community

Hokies will have student leaders for Well-being, for Inclusion & Belonging, and for ExperienceVT living in their residence hall community.

The easiest way to get support from the SL On Duty is by calling the SL Duty phone, a cell phone SLs carry overnight.

    • The SL will share and post the number related to your specific residence hall
    • The Duty phone is on from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. each weekday and 5 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Monday
    • Students can call the duty phone for lock-outs, need for response, policy questions, or safety concerns

During the day, students can contact the Residential Well-Being professional staff or call the RWB office at 540-231-1139.

    Embedded Counselors

Embedded counselors live on campus, providing late-night support for students.

Services are available from 2–10 p.m., Monday–Thursday, and 1–4 p.m. on Fridays. If you are a student living on campus and would like to connect, drop by East Eggleston Hall, Suite 107, or call 540-231-6557.

Reducing barriers to mental health services for on-campus students is the goal of Residential Well-Being embedded counselors. These counselors increase access to support and aim to elevate residential students’ mental, emotional, and social well-being.

RWB Embedded Counselors, who are members of the Cook Counseling Center staff, aim to provide confidential counseling, crisis response, drop-in consultation, and outreach support for residential students.
