A Hokie Passport — the ID card students use for entering their room and accessing laundry, dining, and more — is an essential part of living on campus at VT. Check out the essential info below and share with a Hokie you know!

The last day for incoming students to submit their photo ID for their Hokie Passport is tomorrow — Tuesday, July 15!

Questions regarding Hokie Passport?

  • Contact Hokie Passport Services at 540-231-5121 Monday — Friday, 8:00 a.m. — 4:30 p.m.

Submit your ID Card Photo, Set a PIN, and Validate the ID

When submitting your ID photo, students should follow these steps to avoid delays with their Hokie Passport being mailed to them!

  • The most common reason a photo is denied is background — students should use a smooth, light colored background.
  • Students get a maximum of three attempts to submit a photo or they must visit the Hokie Passport office.
  • Student conduct could get involved if inappropriate photos are submitted.
  • Students should wait for confirmation that their photo has been approved (1-3 business days) .

A four-digit PIN will be emailed to a student’s vt.edu email prior to their arrival. When they arrive to campus, they can set their own PIN or reset their PIN. Make sure they are connected to the Eduroam WiFi. Students must be connected in order to set or reset their PIN!

When students arrive to campus on move-in day, they must visit the Information Station to validate their ID! If a student does not come validate the ID within three days of moving in, the card will be deactivated. Follow Hokie Passport Services on Facebook for more info and updates!

Adding Money to Hokie Passport

  • Hokie Passport funds are stored on the Hokie Passport ID Card and can be used at laundry facilities, campus vending machines, print labs, dining centers, and many retail locations.
  • Students can also visit Hokie Passport Services in person to add funds via cash or check. This office is located at Student Services Building, STE 100, Virginia Tech. 800 Washington Street, SW, Blacksburg, VA 24061.

Use Hokie Passport to enter the residence hall room

  • Place the Hokie Passport in front of the door’s keypad.
  • Wait for the door to beep (red-green, red-green).
  • Enter the 4-digit PIN and the door will unlock. (The PIN should be the same as what was sent to the student’s vt.edu email unless they changed it)
