Supporting Your Student During Move-In Week
Move-in week is a big transition for both students and their families. We encourage families to let your Hokie take the lead and initiative during this time. If questions come up, empower your student to reach out to the appropriate office or contact directly rather than doing it for them. Think of it like riding a tandem bike: your student is in the front seat steering and driving, while you are in the back seat providing support when needed. This approach helps your Hokie build independence and confidence while knowing you are there to encourage them.
Welcome to the Hokie Community
Mandatory events are an important part of ensuring your Hokie starts their Virginia Tech journey successfully, while Weeks of Welcome offers countless opportunities for them to meet new people, explore campus, and feel at home. Families are an essential part of this transition too, and we hope youβll take advantage of the special events designed for you during move-in week.
The New Student and Family Programs team is here to help! If the contact you are looking for is not listed above, you can reach out to our office at 540-231-3284 or families@vt.edu. If you haven't already, connect with us on Facebook and Instagram!
