Is a Hokie in your life taking classes on the Virginia Tech campus in summer 2025? They can choose affordable, convenient on-campus housing through Virginia Tech Housing Services. Keep reading or visit our summer housing webpage to learn more!
All housing for summer 2025 will be in the Creativity and Innovation District (CID) residence hall. CID provides an air-conditioned, double-occupancy living space for undergrad and graduate students. Your student must be registered for summer classes to qualify for summer housing!
All summer buildings are coeducational. Due to facilities projects scheduled for summer 2025, Donaldson-Brown will not be available. Housing Services will work individually with graduate students staying from spring through the summer to transition them to CID once spring 2025 finals end.

How to sign up
Summer housing contracts open on StarRez Portal on Feb. 28, 2025 at 12 p.m. Your student can log into the StarRez Portal with their VT username/password and two-factor authentication!
Hokies should navigate to “Housing Contracts” on the top menu bar and select “Summer 2025” from the term selection page. They should complete the contract as instructed from that page.
What about summer dining?
Virginia Tech’s award-winning dining locations are open for the Hokies in your life during the summer! All on-campus students are required to purchase either the summer flex or 19 meals-per-week dining plan.
Off-campus students may select a Summer Flex, 19 meals-per-week, or 7 meals-per-week dining plan. Due to the shorter term, larger flex plans are not available.
Summer dining plans may be selected through the link in the summer housing contract or by going directly to “Dining Plans” in the StarRez Portal.
Rates and Billing
You or your Hokie will be able to check the rates for summer housing on our website when they become available.
If your student has signed a summer housing contract, they will see default summer charges on their billing statement in April or early May. These charges are based on a general estimate for summer housing. Their official room assignment will be finalized in the following weeks, at which point the default bill will be replaced with a bill specific to their assigned residence hall. In most cases, the two bills will be very similar, if not identical.
Spring to summer transition
Residents cannot live in their spring room assignment during this time, but they may be able to leave their belongings. Residents desiring to leave belongings in their room for the spring to summer transition, starting on their spring check-out date and ending on May 25, must:
- Be pre-registered for the Summer I Session by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 25
- Indicate they are planning on leaving items in their room in their housing contract
- Accept the release of liability statement in their housing contract
Current residents who are only attending the Summer II Session will not be eligible to leave belongings and must fully move out by their spring check-out date in May.
Residents of Pritchard Hall, New Residence Hall East, and some West Ambler Johnston rooms will not be eligible to leave belongings due to facilities projects. Residents of these buildings must fully move out by their spring check-out date in May.
If your student is approved to leave their belongings, they will pack their items and check out of their spring room by their spring check-out date. Students may return for the Summer I Session check-in on the Sunday before the first summer session begins. They will then have access to move their personal belongings from their spring room assignment to their summer home until 5:00 p.m. on the following Tuesday.
If your Hokie already lives in CID, they may be able to stay in their spring room assignment for the summer. Some students will need to move to a new space, but we will attempt to minimize changes. Either way, your student will follow the steps discussed above!
Summer to fall transition
Summer classes end on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025.
Summer residents with on-campus housing contracts for the 2025-2026 school year will transition to fall room assignments between Aug. 8 and Aug. 10. This move must be completed on these dates in order for CID to be cleaned and prepared for residents living there in the fall.
Students not living on campus for fall 2025 must move out fully by 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025.
These deadlines are non-negotiable. No late check-out requests are offered for summer housing.
