New Student and Family Programs is excited to meet you and welcome you to campus for what will be a fun and busy Fall Family Weekend, September 29-October 1 in Blacksburg, VA! Use this weekend to connect with your student(s) and other families while exploring the wider Virginia Tech community. Over 4,100 families are attending!
Download the “Hokie Families” guide in the Hokies on Track mobile app for the full schedule, event descriptions, and real-time updates. Unless otherwise noted in each specific event description, all Family Weekend events are “first-come, first-served” until the capacity is reached.
CHECK-IN & INFORMATION BOOTH:
On Friday or Saturday, please check-in with us at our maroon “Hokies-on-Track" tent to say Hello, pick up your “Proud Hokie Family” bag, your weekend schedule and map, plus lots of fun swag.
- Friday, Sept. 29:
- 12:00pm-7:00pm: Next to Dietrick Hall near the HokieBird statue (285 Ag Quad Ln, Blacksburg).
- 5:00pm-8:00pm: In front of Squires Student Center, College Ave. side (290 College Ave, Blacksburg).
- Saturday, Sept. 30:
- 10:00am-5:00pm: Inside Squires Student Center (1st floor) at Info Booth B, (290 College Ave, Blacksburg).
- 5:00pm-8:00pm: Family Tailgate on Dietrick Lawn.
SIGNATURE EVENTS:
Friday, September 29:
- 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm: Campus Tours
- Guided 1 hour walking tour.
- Tours leave each hour from our check-in tent next to Dietrick Hall.
- 5:00pm-9:00pm: Kick-Off on College Avenue
- Located in downtown Blacksburg on College Ave.
- Enjoy live entertainment, VT resource booths, inflatables, a “Future Hokies” Kid Zone, beer garden, free swag, and more!
- Located in downtown Blacksburg on College Ave.
Saturday, September 30:
- 5:00pm-8:00pm: Fall Family Weekend Tailgate, Dietrick Lawn
- Free admission to all Family Weekend attendees.
- 500-person capacity; first-come, first-served.
- Food and drinks available while supplies last!

Sunday, October 1:
- 10:00am-11:30am: Families as Partners Brunch, Squires Commonwealth Ballroom B
- 50-person capacity, first-come, first-served.
- Presentations on student trends, available resources, and a little fun.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- With all of the exciting events happening in Blacksburg this weekend, including the home football game, be prepared for increased traffic and parking restrictions on and around campus.
- We encourage you to learn about Public Parking in Blacksburg and how to use the FREE Blacksburg Transit (BT) Bus services.
- For meals, you can dine on campus with your student OR explore off-campus options.
